The Wolverines hosted Merseyside Saints in the 1st round of the AFL CNE league. With solid performances from Wolverhampton when they hosted the 1st Lightning round of the season which saw them defeat Huddersfield Rams and Sheffield Thunder, they wanted to continue their winning run against league newcomers Merseyside Saints.
Wolverhampton carried on with their strong start to the season making good use of squad rotation throughout the game and dominating the first three quarters. Suffering with injuries during the match and with a lack of substitutions, Merseyside found it difficult to maintain possession and find opportunities to score goals.
Despite Wolverhampton’s dominance throughout most of the game Merseyside found their feet in the final quarter and started to move the ball around the field which lead to them creating goals.
However their goals later in the game was not enough to make a comeback. Wolverines controlled in midfield and continued to create chances for the forward men.
Despite the result, Merseyside never stopped battling and took their chances in the last quarter well which got them points on the scoreboard.
